A group of leading participants in the lithium value chain have joined together to commission a groundbreaking risk management options analysis (RMOA) for lithium carbonate, hydroxide, chloride and metal.
On November 13, ILiA’s Health & Safety Committee will launch a questionnaire aimed at collection information about the lithium industry to guide the RMOA process.
This new project, led by the International Lithium Association, will help regulators and industry participants to better understand the uses and life cycle of lithium and its three most common salts. It will examine the current research on lithium, identify gaps, and help support an informed discussion by regulators.
ILiA believes that classifications should be based on clear, compelling and comprehensive scientific evidence. Neither ILiA nor its members question the need for substances to be proportionally regulated in order to protect workers’ safety. Companies involved in the project include Albemarle, AMG Lithium, Aurora Lithium, BASF, Eramet, European Lubricating Grease Institute (ELGI), European Reach Grease Thickeners Consortium, Frit Consortium, Imerys, Keliber, LevertonHELM, Lithium de France, Livent, RECHARGE, Rio Tinto, Savannah Resources, SQM, Umicore and Vulcan Energy.
