The Economic Transition to Zero Carbon has highlighted the strategic role of Critical Minerals, so called because nations seek to protect supplies of materials they consider vital to their industrial and military capabilities. About 50 metallic and mineral elements currently meet these criteria in China, the U.S., and the European Union.
In this context of scarcity of world supply in the face of an increasingly growing demand, the Jequitinhonha Valley has projected itself to the world as a carrier of an expressive occurrence of pegmatites of superior quality, attracting significant investments to the region. It is a Window of Opportunity to think about Municipal Economic Development and Territorial Reconversion based on another Development Model based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and their 169 goals.
